Wachovia Corporation, formed in 2001 due to the merger of First Union Corporation and the former Wachovia Corporation (originally founded in 1879), is headquartered in Charlottesville, North Carolina.. As part of the merger, First Union changed its name to Wachovia Corporation. Currently, Wachovia is America’s fourth largest bank holding company based on assets (as of March 31, 2006 their Assets were $542 billion). Wachovia 1st quarter 2006 Earnings were $1.73 billion. Furthermore, they are the third largest American full-service brokerage firm based on client assets. Wachovia’s slogan is: “Every Home Has a Story.” Mortgage loans are originated by key subsidiary, Wachovia Mortgage Corporation. Wachovia’s other key subsidiary is Wachovia Securities, LLC.
